In the use of drones, the military sector occupies a large part. With the development of the military, the requirements of the military for drones are also getting higher and higher. Britain now uses drones for more urgent and important tasks: tracking terrorists.
Recently, the British Air Force Special Forces (SAS) will be equipped with a solar drone that can stay in the air for 45 days at a time to track terrorists worldwide.
The solar drone is called Zephyr, which can absorb solar energy during the day to charge the glass-sulfur battery and continue to supply electricity during the night. It is worth 4.3 million pounds and has a flying height of 70,000 feet (21,336 meters), which is twice the flying height of a commercial aircraft. At this altitude, it is free from weather. The wing exhibits 22.5 meters. It will serve as the latest equipment for the British Air Force Special Forces (SAS).
The Zephyr can operate anywhere in the world and transmit instructions to it via communication satellites. If there are no satellites available, SAS personnel can make it travel over 400 km through a control station.
SAS will use the camera on the drone to monitor ground activities. Zephyr's antennas provide a communications platform for searching the wider regions of the globe.
It is reported that this mature and lightweight drone mimics the appearance of Star Trek's Klingon Bird of Prey, an engineer from Airbus Airbus in Farnborough, England.
This information was published by the official documents of the British Ministry of National Defense, but for security reasons, the official has not disclosed too many details of this drone.
Michael Fallon, head of the British Ministry of National Defense, said:
Zephyr is a pioneering drone that uses cutting-edge technology to break the drone's record in collecting information. It can continuously collect reliable information based on different geographical environments in different places, covering a wide range of areas and collecting more details.
In today’s world, where terrorism is raging, we need to assist all parties and use stronger ships, aircraft, and military forces to fight against them. The use of drones will greatly assist our counter-terrorism operations.
The official documents of the British Ministry of National Defense stated:
We call it a "high-altitude pseudo-satellite," which is more like a satellite than a drone in the traditional sense.
Tony Douglas, head of the British Equipment and Security Agency, said:
Zephyr uses a lot of innovative technologies to escort world peace.
It is reported that the military now requires that new types of people must have a higher level of intelligence to meet the complex requirements of the operational environment. Therefore, smart drones have become an inevitable choice. After installing "brain brain" for drones, drones can have a high degree of automatic and accurate judgment, automatic analysis and processing, and automatic and accurate control capabilities. With the increase in the level of high intelligence, unmanned combat systems consisting of unmanned fighters, unmanned bombers, unmanned electronic warfare aircraft, and unmanned early-warning aircraft will emerge on the battlefield in the future. This not only overturns people’s current air battle mode. This understanding will inevitably lead to fundamental changes in the way we fight in the future.
The birth of Zephyr means that military drones have taken a big step forward.
