LeTV announced in the United States its acquisition of US television manufacturer Vizio for US$2 billion; in an interview with NetEase Technology and other media, Jia Yueting said that the future will be an era of Internet ecology. If Samsung LG does not revolutionize itself, it’s in the television industry. The dominance will be subverted. "(It) wants to revolutionize itself. It's too difficult."
According to Jia Yueting, it was seen three years ago when he saw Vizio. "When I first met Wang Wei, I wanted to merge with them and I chased after three years." And after the merger is completed, Jia Yueting expects. LeTV's TV sales will reach 1400-15 million units (LeTV 6 million, Vizio about 8 million units), "To 2017 total sales will exceed 20 million units."
According to data from market research firm WitsView, the total global shipments of LCD TVs in 2015 was 215 million units, of which Samsung and LG still ranked first and second, with shipments of 48 million and 30 million respectively; TCL Ranked third and fourth respectively with Hisense, and shipments of its own-brand machine were 13.1 million units and 12.8 million units respectively. Japanese brand maker Sony ranked fifth, with shipments of 12.1 million units.
The acquisition was seen by Jia Yueting as an important part of LeEco's globalization. For the reasons of globalization, Jia Yueting told NetEase that in the Internet era, Chinese companies actually have two major advantages:
1. Chinese companies have relatively stronger Internet user advantages and more advanced Internet thinking;
2. Chinese companies have advantages in how to break the industrial borders. China does not have such strong industrial barriers, while the United States, due to its meticulous and powerful division of labor, is more restricted.
Jia Yueting hopes that he can copy the music model of LeTV in China to the most populous countries in the world (such as the United States, India, etc.) and hopes to rapidly expand the number of users, especially the number of high-value users.
LeTV's acquisition of Vizio will be conducted in a cash-only manner and is expected to be completed within 6 months.
