Recently, at Madame Tussauds New York, VR technology company The Void has a VR experience called Ghostbusters Dimension. Visitors wear virtual reality helmets and walk in well-decorated rooms. They can hear the surrounding sounds, use guns and other props, and even smell the smell. Compared to experiencing VR at home, The Void provides a more immersive experience.
“This is my dream for 16 years. Now, I see it become a reality. This is really interesting.†James Jensen, co-founder of The Void, said to the Polygon website.
In the Wax Museum, The Void team built all the scenes and divided the three different areas: the ticket holding area, the equipment wear area, and the VR experience area. In fact, the VR experience area is a 30-square-foot house, but with smart design and appropriate equipment, visitors will feel that they have arrived at a luxury hotel in New York.
Visitors are not able to enter the VR experience area before they are equipped. "That would destroy magic," Jensen said. "It's like seeing the backstage of David Copperfield's magic show."

In the VR experience area, horizontally intersecting steel plates are arranged on the roof and 50 small cameras are embedded. These cameras will keep track of visitors’ physical activity by tracking the helmets of tourists and the small balls on their guns. All this data is entered into the computer, and the computer then sends the appropriate image to the visitor.
After the four tourists enter the VR experience area, the staff of the operation center will pay close attention to everything that happens inside. At the operation center, every visitor's sight will be displayed on the screen. “Behind the scenes, The Void did a lot of work,†Jensen said. “The experience of Ghostbusters Dimension is intelligent. When many people are present, it knows where you are and it will adjust to your behavior.†VR experience."
When necessary, staff members can talk directly with tourists. “If tourists start doing crazy things, they can directly speak to them and demand that they stop those activities or turn off the VR experience directly. They are always watching everyone in the VR experience. There are many behind the scenes, and we do Things are not the same as other people."

Currently, The Void's first project has been in operation for more than a month. In the process, the company received a lot of cooperation intentions. "We are developing some new IPs," Jensen said. "Some are our own, some are others, like Ghostbusters. We try to diversify the content. Maybe next year you will see exploratory Experience, or a first-person shooting game, or a more gamified experience, you can get some points."
The ultimate goal of The Void is to build "experience center", including different types of VR content, just like a multi-functional movie theater. In the future, people can experience VR at home, but in Jensen's view, The Void's experience is completely different.
“The Void offers a very different experience than if you had a Vive helmet at home. You are completely out of the real world and into a virtual environment. At home, you still feel like you are in the living room and you are worried about yourself. You can step on kittens. You can't completely let go of your thinking. Even in VR, your thinking still has to fight with reality. Only in The Void's experience can you really escape the real world."
