My home's second router: NETGEAR NETGEAR R6800 VS R7000P & Linksys Leading EA6500V2

For the transition layer, the network equipment originally used by the small set of two is obviously difficult to load, and upgrade is a must.

The first is to get one of the site's big favorite: NETGEAR R7000P wireless router as the main router, found that its signal really exceeds my original EA6500V2, especially the 5G signal, on the first floor of the weak box can be a perfect coverage Floors.

The shoe on the left side of the figure A is where the weak box is located. The A position to the living room is actually going through a corner wall, which is equivalent to passing through two walls. The previous EA6500V2 signal in the living room is very weak, and the R7000P is changed. It can be perfectly covered. The two graphs on the right are the signal strength of the second floor of the R7000P tested with a tablet computer. Although the connection can still be stabilized, the speed drop is very serious.

This situation is easy to expect even if it is not tested, so I decided early on the second floor of the second floor with panel AP to achieve WIFI coverage, but also can provide network cable interface, a long time in advance to buy the device above.

The five-port Gigabit POE switch is specifically designed to connect three AP panels to provide data transmission while also achieving power supply

The Panel AP has a high value for simplicity and appearance. The POE power supply does not need to be connected to the cable alone. It makes full use of the original embedded network cable of the house. The WIFI of 900M even has a mobile phone. However, when I chose this panel, I made a serious mistake: This 900M WIFI is equipped with a 100M network interface, which is a pit in the pit! Although there is a 100M WIFI mobile phone is also completely sufficient, but only 100M panel interface is certainly not able to meet the needs of the desktop study on the second floor.

Not long ago, it was discovered that TP-LINK has finally introduced a panel-type AP with a Gigabit interface, but the price is as high as 389 oceans too. After consultation with the wife, the final decision was that her study room and the third floor bedroom had already been purchased using the already purchased panels. My study then purchased a separate router, which was also convenient for occasional access to other equipment.

The new router came from the stock of Chengdu @leftsky. Before he sent a drying sheet at this site, he would not buy it at a low price, but he certainly would not only buy one, but he would have to ask him a question. The lowest price in history was successfully allocated to one station.

Unpacking and installation settings

Well-proven packaging, AC1900 dual-band (2.4G 600M plus 5G 1300M), Gigabit WAN port and LAN port.

Behind the packaging is the main characteristics of the router, QoS traffic optimization, Airtime Fairness low-speed equipment network delay, USB interface, parental control should be considered among the more advanced features.

The family portrait is basically the same as the R7000P. In addition to the paper data, only the power supply, network cable, and three-paddle antenna are used.

The top surface of the router is mirror-finished. The reflection is serious and it is easy to get fingerprints.

A dense array of lights, moving all network port indicators to the front, although light pollution is more serious, but it is also more intuitive. The two rightmost lights are also WIFI switches and WPS pairing switches.

The front end of the router hides a USB 3.0 interface, so designing everyday plug and play storage devices will be a lot easier.

Half of the back is a cooling hole, and the other side is full of various interfaces: 1WAN, 3LAN, 3 antenna, USB printer interface, power interface and power switch.

The bevels on both sides are all covered by heat sinks.

The bottom is also a large number of cooling holes designed to leave only the location of the label. With the two hanging holes at the bottom, the router can also be suspended.

One wall of my study was covered with Ou Song board. It is just for the convenience of hanging things. The router can be conveniently suspended like the one above.

Assembled routers, stout paddle antennas do appear to pull a lot of wind.

The antenna can be rotated left and right or it can be turned upside down within 90 degrees.

The supporting power supply is 12V 2.5A, and the power is slightly less than that of the R7000P.

With the extra category five network cable, many keyboard players have said that they must use six types of Internet cables for Gigabit. In fact, for home distance, five types of lines can run full Gigabit. The five types of lines that were originally embedded in my family have not gone. Replaced, only the newly added network cable used super five categories.

The NETGEAR system does a pretty good job in terms of ease of use. After the LAN port of the new router is connected to the computer, a setting interface will pop up automatically to modify the access method and administrator password.

Enter the basic page of the setting interface, it is very intuitive to list the status and basic functions.

Because it is the second router, I set it to the wireless access point mode. The WAN port connects to the upper router to form an interworking large LAN. Routers that did not support this mode in the past can only use the LAN port to shut down the DHCP service, and lose one interface.

After rebooting the router and re-entering the settings interface, the features that are not available in this mode are all gray, which is a very thoughtful design.

USB storage function can still be used normally in this mode, which can be used as a NAS in a certain extent.

Connected to the SANDISK CZ80 high-speed USB flash drive for testing, the read/write speed is about 40/25, which is much lower than that of a dedicated NAS, but it is completely enough if you just read the photos or watch a movie.

Connected with a notebook 5G signal test, 200M broadband properly run full.

Copying movies from NAS through 5G WIFI can reach a speed of 50MB/s. There is no problem with the 4K original.

Too many features of the router I will not test one by one, the above picture is all the features of the R6800 advanced menu, probably also know its function.

Through the NETGEAR APP, you can also use the mobile phone to modify some of the settings of the router. However, you can only control the currently connected routers and cannot control other network routers that pass through the LAN.

Through the APP ReadySHARE can access the data stored in the USB3.0 interface, such as the power can be opened directly to play, but the built-in playback can not be horizontal full screen.

Signal Test 1: VS R7000P

I specifically removed the R7000P from the weak box as a contrast, so that there will be a more intuitive reference for signal strength.

The appearance and size of the two routers are exactly the same, but the R7000P uses a matte shell, which is more for me.

The USB3.0 interface is also hidden behind the front edge.

Backend interface R6800 slightly shrink, R7000P's interface is with a metal shield, in fact, the distribution network cable is also the same, but R7000P network cable forget where the plug did not find.

The front light is also exactly the same.

The front of the power supply also said that R7000P is 12V 3.5A, which is bigger than R6800.

WirelessMon's Map function was used to test the signal strength. Two routers were placed together in the study room in the lower left corner. The position could be seen from the signal map. The greenest place was to place the router's desk. Obviously, the R7000P signal is still much stronger than the R6800, and the 5G signal is particularly touching, basically the same as 2.4G. Although the other farthest study has become red, in fact there is no problem with the network connection, and there will be more detailed tests later.

Signal Test II: VS EA6500V2

19424.jpg_e600.jpg" />

This is the router that I originally used. It appeared in articles that I had previously sorted out on the desk and was also attacked by many radiation parties.

Digression, I can't help Tucao's comments, but this reply from Xiongtai on the 1024th floor is really a godsend!

WirelessMon's Map function was also used to test the signal strength. Two routers were still in the study room in the lower left corner. Obviously, the R6800's 5G signal is less obtrusive than the R7000P and slightly weaker than its own 2.4G signal. The 2.4G signal of the EA6500V2 performs well, but the 5G signal is quite sad and there is no signal to the top study.

The strength of the signal is not very persuasive, direct test transmission rate is more reliable, so I continue to put the router on the A point of the desk, with iPhone 6s installed iperf3 rate test, test points are: B study chair , C audio-visual room sofa, D toilet toilet, E daughter study chair. The following tests are R6800 on the left and EA6500V2 on the right.

At point B, the transmission speeds of the two are basically the same, and there is no difference with R7000P. This should be the limit that iPhone6s can reach.

Point C is a sofa on the audio-visual room separated by a load-bearing wall. The speeds of both have declined, and the R6800 has obvious advantages.

The toilet in the D position has actually been separated by two walls in the straight direction. One of the bearing walls is one, and the speed of the R6800 is stable at about 130M, while the EA6500V2 is already as low as 42M.

The last is the farthest daughter-in-law study. There are 2 brick walls and 1 blocking wall in the straight direction. The R6800 can still have a speed of 30M or more. Usually the Internet can still barely cope with, and the EA6500V2 has been severely cut off. This is a good WIFI in advance. Only entered this room, if you have been disconnected can not find the EA6500V2 signal.

to sum up:

Although the signal of R6800 is less powerful than R7000P, there is no suspense of EA6500V2. The R6800's QoS, smart antenna technology, parental control, and guest network are also extremely practical for home use. Before speaking to my brother to change the EA6500V2 to send him, but because of this test I decided to leave the EA6500V2 for my own use. After all, I only need to use it to cover the study and video room. It is more suitable for him to wear a lot of R6800. Cover the entire house, and grabbed the sun before you leave.

Finally there is a place that puzzles me. The router's packaging does not mention MU-MIMO anywhere, but the setting menu clearly lists this option. Jingdong's product introduction is also introduced accordingly. Is it a premium gift? Unfortunately, my family currently only supports the MU-MIMO of the wife's iPhone 7 and can't test it. Wait until I get a supported mobile phone to test how MU-MIMO works.

The size of the EA6500V2 with a built-in antenna is small. I can consider hanging it directly under the bottom of the subwoofer bracket under the table, which is also a great benefit. This messy route is also the reason why I haven't written the whole house network. The weak box is several times more chaotic than this. When I put all these things in order, I will finish the long-running "Home of Renovated Stars". 》Weak currents.
