Visbit, a California startup with only 10 employees, studied high-definition VR video streaming. After financing $3.2 million at the end of 2016, they announced at the IEEE VR Summit last month that they could stream 12K resolution VR video in a conventional Wi-Fi or LTE network environment. The 12K seems to be still a bit far away from us, but Visbit opened a public beta of 4K and 6K VR video streaming today.
Visbit's platform is mainly composed of three parts: SDK for developers to access services, cloud platform and video publishing tools. In the public manuscript, Visbit stated that this live streaming platform is very simple and straightforward for developers, and the video quality is not compressed.
Their feature, called Bisbit Adaptive Bitrate, is simple to explain: predicting changes in video bit rate through the viewer's network bandwidth, which can shorten video start-up time and picture quality adjustment time.
Visbit’s public beta currently supports Gear VR and Android Cardboard, and support for Daydream and iOS Cardboard and other platforms was added later.
