On August 15, Samsung announced the launch of its first 5G baseband chip-Exynos Modem 5100. According to reports, Exynos Modem 5100 is the industry's first baseband product that is fully compatible with 3GPP Release 15 specifications, which is the latest 5G NR new air interface protocol.
In terms of specifications, the Exynos Modem 5100 chip is built with a 10nm LPP process, supports Sub 6GHz low and medium frequencies (which will be used in my country) and mmWave (millimeter wave) high frequencies, and is backward compatible with 2G/3G/4G, including but not limited to GSM, CDMA, WCDMA , TD-SCDMA, HSPA, 4G LTE, etc.
In terms of speed and performance, the Exynos Modem 5100 can achieve a download rate of up to 2Gbps in Sub 6GHz and a download rate of 6Gbps in the millimeter wave frequency band. At the same time, the 4G speed is also increased to 1.6Gbps.
Samsung said it has successfully used a 5G prototype terminal equipped with an Exynos Modem 5100 baseband and a 5G base station to conduct a wireless call test.
It is reported that the Exynos Modem 5100 baseband will be provided to customers together with radio frequency IC, envelope tracking, power management IC and other solutions, and will be shipped before the end of the year.
