[Abstract] The new patent can remotely monitor the baby's breathing and give a reminder when something goes wrong.
Tencent digital (Hamish) objectively stated that even the smallest parents cannot grasp the newborn's breathing at all times. Now a patented invention by Intel will help new parents.
A few days ago, Intel acquired a patent for a baby breathing 3D monitoring system. The patent was described as “detecting the presence or absence of breathing by monitoring the baby’s abdominal fluctuations during sleep with a depth-sensing cameraâ€. The 3D camera in the patent was able to determine the details of the "baseline between the baby's abdomen and the camera." When the device determines that the baby is apnea, it immediately sends an alert to their parents through smartphones, laptops, and tablets.
In addition, this camera can also monitor the baby's sleeping position and alert parents when they go from sleeping to sleeping. Intel’s team hopes to prevent sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) in this way. According to studies, this condition is most likely to occur during sleep, and is mainly caused by respiratory problems.
"The traditional method of monitoring infant sleep breathing requires additional accessories," the patent description writes. "So we need a more practical infant respiratory monitoring system."
Previously there have been many baby monitoring systems equipped with digital cameras, but most of them cannot provide accurate data. Some systems do not have image analysis capabilities and cannot determine current respiratory status. Parents can only briefly observe the baby's current behavior. Therefore, Intel's new patent may be a good solution.
It is not yet clear how this 3D camera will be commercialized. If it is finally commercialized, it will certainly give parents a lot of help.
