Tyco Electronics recently introduced a solderless LED socket

TycoElectronics has introduced a solderless LED socket, model LS, designed specifically for Philips Lumileds' new product LUXEONTMSLED, and was first introduced at the "Strategies InLight2011" conference in Santa Clara, California, USA. roll out. This new product provides solderless wire end connections for Philips Lumileds' latest lighting class LEDs. This LS model socket is UL-1977 compliant and utilizes insulator replacement technology to achieve a simple and fast 24AWG wire end to socket connection. The stainless steel spring integrated in the socket exerts sufficient and consistent pressure on the LED to ensure optimum thermal conductivity.


Solderless Socket In addition, this socket uses a locator, a plastic frame that is pre-placed on the heat sink for LED positioning before connecting the socket, and simplifies the positioning between the LuxeonSLED and the heat sink. After positioning, the socket can be quickly attached to the heat sink using only the 4 or M3 screws available on the market. To ensure maximum optical efficiency in lens-free applications, the shape of this socket is such that 98% of the light energy passes through the socket. The product can be supplied with or without an optic clip so that the luminaire designer has the flexibility to design secondary optics. For flexibility in optical design, the Venla range of mirrors produced by LEDILOY offers a variety of beam angles that match the socket and provide a simple snap-on socket.
