MIDI electronic music production basics

More and more young people are beginning to be interested in MIDI production, especially with the rapid development of computers, professional equipment that is far away from ordinary people can be replaced by software. This is undoubtedly the gospel of music lovers, experience yourself. When the music producer is fun!
So what is MIDI? MIDI is an acronym of English Music Instrument Digital Interface, which translates to "Musical Instrument Digital Interface", that is to say its true meaning is the name of the interface of a different device for signal transmission. All of our current MIDI music production relies on this interface, and the information transmitted between this interface is called MIDI information.
Below we have to touch the essence of MIDI music, very important! How is MIDI music made? What does it need?
In fact, in the process of making MIDI music, there are always three "magic weapons": sound source, sequencer. input device.
In layman's terms, the sound source is a thing with a lot of sounds. We have to rely on it to provide sounds when we want to hear music. Different sound sources can provide different sounds.
Of course, there are good and bad, high-end and low-end. The sampler is actually a kind of sound source,
It's just that its tone is not fixed, but from all kinds of sampling trays or your own hands--sampling yourself.
But the sound source is actually very stupid, because it doesn't know when to use what sound to make a long sound. It is like a rich mineral deposit. As for how to use work that is not a sound source,
There must be another device to direct it, this device is the heart of MIDI production - the sequencer.
The task of the sequencer is to record the will of the person. In fact, it records the basic elements of music—speed, rhythm, timbre, time value of notes, and so on.
In this way, during the playback process, the sequencer will direct the sound source according to its content and when to use the sound, so that we can hear a beautiful song.
As for the input device is also very easy to understand, the content of the sequencer has to ask people to tell it!
In order to comply with our original playing habits, people have created many MIDI input devices based on traditional instruments, such as MIDI keyboard, MIDI guitar, MIDI blow tube, MIDI violin, etc.
We can play them in the same way as traditional instruments, and our performances are sent to the sequencer via the MIDI OUT exit and recorded as sequence content.
So it can be said that the content of the MIDI file is actually the content of the sequence, it is just a bunch of numbers.
What you see when you open the Event list in a software like Cakewalk is the content of MIDI music.
So the volume of MIDI files is very small, usually only a few tens of KB, which is very suitable for propagation on the network.
But it is precisely because the MIDI file is not recorded in the waveform describing the sound, so the same MIDI file will play differently on different sources.
Because the sound is emitted by the sound source, the sound of the sound card or the hardware of the different sound card is different.
But we can still download MIDI music from the INTERNET and play it, or listen, why?
It is entirely based on a General MIDI (GM) standard, which is commonly understood to mean the order in which 128 commonly used instruments and controllers are arranged.
For example, the first tone of all GM sound banks must be a grand piano, and the 25th tone must be a steel string guitar. As long as everyone makes music according to the GM standard, use the GM sound library to enjoy MIDI music.
Then the sound is not confusing, the piano is still a piano, the guitar is still a guitar, but the sound of each source is different. Therefore, the MIDI works provided online must comply with the GM standard.
