New York highways use LED lighting to estimate 20% of electricity bills

New York State Governor Andrew Como announced on the 23rd that the New York State Expressway has switched to LED lighting, which is expected to save 20% of electricity bills. In addition, LED lighting upgrades will also improve the lighting environment and increase the road safety factor.

The New York State Expressway currently spends $2 million on electricity bills per year for lighting systems, and will save 20% of electricity bills annually after the upgrade. The highway management department installs LED lighting to receive a number of rewards and rebates, and the cost of installation can be offset by the saved electricity costs for about two years.

The State of New York also plans to use LED lighting near the plazas, toll stations, and parking lots near the highway, and launch solar and wind power projects in nearly 300 locations to power the highway.
