In the past few years, the LED market has experienced a rapid development stage due to the entry of technology and large amounts of capital. Today's white LED products have greatly improved in terms of light efficiency, light quality, reliability, service life and price. A large number of applications have begun in the field of backlights and displays, and are beginning to replace traditional light sources into the field of general illumination. In the past two years, due to the rapid release of production capacity and the global economic downturn, the price of LED products has been declining, which has made many companies' profits begin to face difficulties. Among them, the most affected are the enterprises with low grades of production products, lack of core technology and serious product homogeneity. In contrast, leading companies with both core technology and a certain production scale are much better, and some companies are still able to maintain relatively stable profit levels. Compared with the hot atmosphere of the industry in previous years, now everyone talks about overcapacity, industry reshuffle and how to fight price wars.
Regarding overcapacity, the author believes that for small-current-driven chips, the threshold for entering the LED industry is not high, causing a large number of enterprises to flock in, and there is a mixed phenomenon, and the production capacity seems to be oversupply. For medium and high power, high-current driving chips for solid-state lighting and TV backlights are required, and only a few companies can meet the standards. Because some of the technical problems have not been solved, such as: 1, luminous efficiency is still low. Although the luminous efficiency of GaN LED chips has been increasing in recent years, the light efficiency of laboratory-level chips has exceeded 200 lm/ under the drive of small currents, and the light efficiency of some enterprise products has reached 100-130 lm/W. The luminaire has exceeded the luminous efficiency of the fluorescent lamp. However, for high-current-driven chips, only a few well-known companies have more than 100lm/W of light-emitting products under high-current driving. These chips have many technical barriers in production, and various indicators need to be optimized before they can be realized. For example, quantum efficiency needs to be further improved, and the forward voltage drop and series resistance need to be further reduced, especially the Droop problem that causes the efficiency of InGaN/GaN LED to decrease under high current injection remains to be solved. 2, the production cost is generally too high, compared with the traditional light source, the majority of users are not easy to accept. 3. The reliability of the product is still not enough, and the problems of packaging efficiency and thermal management need to be improved. In the past, people often saw LED light bulbs that were dying soon after the new installation, and LED light bulbs with white and blue light, screens with missing strokes or traffic lights. The life expectancy of 100,000 hours is far from being met. Before these problems are really solved, excessive application of the application will leave a negative reputation to users, delaying the large-scale entry of products into the field of general lighting.
Regarding the price war, everyone is familiar with the roadmap for semiconductor lighting development. It was developed by a large number of experts in the industry. They know that if the lighting products are to compete with traditional light sources, their price or price/performance ratio can only be widely accepted by the market if they are close to the traditional light source. It is difficult to achieve the "high light efficiency, cold light source, energy saving and environmental protection, and no need to replace all of life" of the previously promoted LED products. According to the LED lighting development roadmap announced by the US Department of Energy in 2012, the main task of LED solid-state lighting is to improve luminous efficiency, reduce production costs and the price of end products, and include specific indicators for each link in the manufacture of LED products. Light efficiency and price indicators are shown in Table 1. As can be seen from the table, the cost of packaged warm white LEDs by 2020 is about 10 times lower than that of 2012, from 7.9$/lmk in 2012 to 0.7$/lmk in 2020; the corresponding luminous efficiency is from The 113lm in the year increased to 224lm in 2020, an increase of 100%; and the price of LED lamps will be nearly 80% lower than in 2012 by 2020. There are reports that the price of replacing 60W LED lights in the next 2-3 years may drop to 10$ or lower. On the contrary, the price and operating cost of raw materials are increasing year by year, the profitability of enterprises is becoming narrower, and product inventory is increasing. Some companies have considered price wars. From this point of view, the survival of the fittest in the industry is an inevitable trend. How can companies survive and develop in the fierce market competition? The author believes that in addition to resource integration, technology upgrade, improve product quality, reduce and control the production costs of all links, and introduce high-efficiency, high-reliability and low-cost LED lighting products to the market as soon as possible.
