After the Foshan Ceramics Price Index went online, the Foshan LED Regional Price Index will also go online within the year. It plans to publish monthly LED chips, lamps and other average prices as well as major company product prices. Regarding this, some companies have expressed warm welcome, while others have been more cautious. They believe that the price involving company secrets is inconvenient.

Good news: provincial funds have been issued for 900 million

"LED lighting has ushered in the policy background," said Wu Yulin, head of the Foshan Lanterns Association. At the beginning of the month, the National Development and Reform Commission issued the “China Roadmap for Phase-out of Incandescent Lamps (Draft for Soliciting Opinions)” and proposed that by 2016 China will completely phase out general-purpose incandescent lamps. Huang Qifeng, deputy director of the Municipal Science and Technology Bureau, said that this is a good opportunity for LED lighting to open up the market. Lan Ji electronic LED business department manager Yu Jijun said that LED instead of incandescent light is a trend, "This has been achieved in the European and American markets, the domestic needs 3-5 years."

On the 16th of this month, the Provincial Department of Science and Technology issued a notice that 450 million yuan will be used to support the LED industry. This is the second special fund of 450 million yuan. Wu Yulin stated that the LED lighting industry in Foshan is well-developed in terms of chips, packaging, and applications. It is a leading position in the Pearl River Delta region and “should receive greater support”. Huang Qifeng revealed that the Science and Technology Bureau has already organized the application for 50 million yuan, and it can be approved after September 3.

Plan: Forming a regional technology alliance

Wu Yulin said that the Foshan Light Association has worked with the Municipal Science and Technology Bureau to formulate a roadmap for the development of the LED industry. It is planned to organize Buddhist lighting, Osram, Midea Lighting, and National Star Optoelectronics. Local companies form a technology alliance to tackle issues such as technical research and benchmarking in the future.

Wu Yulin said that the alliance plans to formulate a Foshan LED price fluctuation system during the year. The coalition will collect and sort the prices of chips, packaging, and application products in the Foshan region, and publish the average price of each link and the price of major company products every month. Huang Qifeng said: "This will help ensure product quality and standardize the market order."

Is the company willing to disclose the price? Ding Fanggui, general manager of Nanhai Ketai Industrial Lighting Co., Ltd. and Zhang Shuhua, general manager of Zhaoxin Lighting Co., Ltd., said that they can publish, "This will also help the government understand market conditions." Huang Qifeng said that these service projects are mainly to optimize the environment for the development of LED industry in Foshan. In the future, the main direction of Foshan LED is to break the foreign technology monopoly and realize the independent development of the entire industry.

LED lamp prices have approached energy-saving lamps

In the past year, the price of ordinary LED upstream chips has dropped from 6 yuan to 2 yuan, driving LED lamp prices to drop by 30%, with an average price of 30-100 yuan, and the flattest price is as low as 10 yuan, which has approached the price of energy-saving lamps. However, when the reporter interviewed the public, many people did not know much about LED lights. Besides knowing about their energy saving, they almost didn't know how to distinguish between good and bad. Wu Yulin said that this is one of the reasons why the association and the Science and Technology Bureau set the price index. “The index is for consumers and buyers, and LED-related knowledge can be popularized, but it takes a long time for the market to completely accept LED products.”
