iPhone 7 Plus dismantling: where is the headphone jack?

After the iPhone is released every year, the following are the reviews for the new iPhone and the details of the teardown. As in previous years, the repair site iFixit also removed iPhone 7/7 Plus and Apple Watch 2. As usual, Apple has left a lot of secrets in the device, but iFixit can always find the mystery through dismantling.

During the dismantling of the iPhone 7 Plus, iFixit commented that it was the same as dismantling the previous iPhone models. Near the Lightning connector at the bottom of the machine is the screw that we are familiar with. What's interesting is that when we open the iPhone 7 Plus's screen, it can only be sideways (usually the top and bottom) like a book. iFixit estimates that it is related to the new features of the iPhone's waterproofing.

After the headphone jack has been removed, the largest part of the machine's internal space is the linear motor. Its volume is larger than the original one. It is interesting to note that there is an additional plastic spacer below the linear motor. This implies that Apple's cancellation of the headset interface was partly due to the linear motor, but of course it seems to be part of the reason for the new iPhone to be waterproof.

Compared to previous generations of iPhones, the batteries of this generation of devices have to be marked with 2750mAh for the iPhone 6s Plus battery and 2915mAh for this generation.

The other two points of the iPhone 7 Plus are its new dual-camera design. In iFixit's words, this design is worthy of the public's “professional” camera bulging belt. Together with the previous features, it occupies space for the 3.5mm headphone jack.

Further dismantling, iFixit confirmed that the iPhone 7 uses 3GB of LPDDR4 to run the memory. It is packaged with Apple's own A10 Fusion processor. As for the iPhone 7, it still uses 2GB of running memory. At the same time, the dismantling of ChipWorks revealed that some of the iPhone 7 models have at least a few parts of Intel components. These include an Intel-supplied demodulator and two Intel-supplied wireless receivers and power management ICs. This seems to be why this year's T-Mobile and AT&T phones do not support CDMA, and Verizon and Sprint support CDMA and GSM formats.

Another issue that everyone cares about is whether the brand new Force Touch Home button can be removed and replaced. The dismantling of iFixit tells us that this part is still replaceable, although the removal process is more troublesome than before. The other enhancements are to give the new iPhone a waterproof feature. For example, plastic SIM slots and rubber gaskets.
