Foxconn and Apple/Dell Team Buy Toshiba's Chip Business

[Global Science and Technology Comprehensive Report] According to a report by the British Broadcasting Corporation on June 12, Foxconn will join United States technology giants Apple and Dell to jointly compete for Toshiba’s chip business.

In 2015, after Toshiba’s accounting scandal, its CEO, Tanaka, resigned. In order to make up for its huge losses in Westinghouse Electric, which has filed for bankruptcy, Toshiba is considering selling some or all of its chip business. There are currently 5 interested buyers. Toshiba hopes to reach a deal in mid-June and shareholders will vote on June 28.

Foxconn is one of the potential buyers. "In the acquisition of Toshiba's chip business, Apple and Dell provide financial support," said Terry Goh, chief executive of Foxconn. Google and Microsoft are also likely to enter the consortium. According to previous reports, Foxconn may bid up to $27 billion for the acquisition of this business. Analysts estimate about 18 billion U.S. dollars.

Founded in Taipei, Taiwan, Foxconn is the world's largest electronics contract manufacturer. Foxconn's customers include major electronics and information technology companies in the United States, Canada, Finland, and Japan. Its products include Apple Mobile, Apple Tablet, Blackberry, PS4, Wii U, Xbox One and many more. (Internship Compilation: Jia Yang Reviewer: Liu Yang)
