Dual-wafer redundancy for full data channel diagnostics and improved self-test capability, AS5270A/B position sensor enables automotive OEMs to meet the highest safety standards

High-performance sensor solutions provider Amys AG (Swiss Stock Exchange: AMS) announced the launch of a new line of magnetic position sensors with superior safety and diagnostic capabilities to help automotive OEMs achieve The highest safety level in ISO26262 ASIL.

The AS5270A/B is ideal for automation applications such as brakes, accelerator pedals, throttles, flip cover, steering wheel position, chassis suspension height, exhaust gas recirculation valve (EGR), oil level measurement system, and 2/4 wheel drive switching.

The new AS5270A and AS5270B system-on-a-chip (SOC) are 0o to 360o omni-directional magnetic position sensors with non-contact high resolution and absolute angle measurements. The AS5270A/B was developed as a SEooC (Independent Security Unit) device that meets the functional safety standards of ISO 26262.

The AS5270A/B magnetic position sensor diagnoses the full data path on the chip and tests the entire device, from the front end of the Hall sensor to the DSP engine that converts the raw measurements of the magnetic field strength into sine and cosine vectors, and finally includes End interface and pin.

The AS5270A/B is a dual-wafer stack that meets the AEC-Q100 Grade-0 rating and is available in MLF-16 surface mount packages for highly reliable, redundant operation. Each wafer has a separate package pin that avoids affecting another wafer circuit when there is an electrical fault on one of the wafers.

The 14-bit (0.22o) resolution front-end core Hall sensor array inside the AS5270A/B enables true 12-bit output resolution. The high sensitivity of the front end of the Hall sensor allows it to be used with miniature, low cost magnets and supports a wide magnetic field input range of 10-90mT.

The AS5270A provides analog output, while the AS5270B provides digital SENT (single edge progressive transfer) and PWM (pulse width modulation) outputs that can be programmed by the customer. Both devices allow customers to program a defined angular range, digital filtering, and output linearization. In addition, the AS5270B provides custom programming settings for different SENT and PWM interface protocols. For both devices, single-wire programming is achieved through the output pins, while the built-in charge pump circuit eliminates the need for high voltages during programming. Once the one-time programming (OTP) fuse is disconnected, the device is not reprogrammed unintentionally or maliciously, reducing the risk of car safety.

The AS5270A/B position sensor operates from a 5 volt supply and the power and output pins are protected with up to 20 volts overvoltage. In addition, the power pin is also protected under a reverse bias of -20 volts.

The AS5270A/B is immune to stray magnetic fields, ensuring high accuracy and repeatable measurements in the most noisy magnetic environments. This makes their performance very stable and reliable while saving system cost because they do not require complex shielding like competitive magnetic position sensor integrated circuits.

Marcel Urban, head of product management and marketing for Ames Semiconductors, said: "The introduction of AS5270A/B reflects the long-term commitment of Amers Semiconductor to enhance safety performance for automotive customers. Amers Semiconductor's new magnetic position sensor is complete The safety support function provides automotive OEMs with a more robust diagnostic and self-testing capability that was not available with previous magnetic position sensors to help these manufacturers meet the highest safety standards of ISO26262."

The AS5270A/B magnetic position sensor is now in volume production.
