On November 2nd, Nikkei BP reported that at the Yokohama Convention and Exhibition Center in the Pacific, USA, Eastman Kodak exhibited white OLED lighting fixtures at "Green Device 2009."
It is reported that the size of the appliance is 6 inches by 6 inches. The color temperature is 3000K, the color rendering index is over 90, and the luminous efficiency is increased to 45 lm/W or more. Although the exhibit was 45lm/W, the company said it has developed a high-efficiency product of 66lm/W or more.
It is understood that in order to improve the light extraction efficiency, the modified product adopts a self-developed structure, and the reflected light of the surface glass can be extracted. In terms of luminescent materials, blue is made of fluorescent materials, and green and red are made of phosphorescent materials. The organic material layer employs a structure in which a layer of green and red phosphorescent material is superposed on a layer of blue phosphor material. The OLED element of Kodak adopts a structure in which an organic material layer is sandwiched between an ITO electrode and a metal deposition layer. The metal evaporation layer can also function in series with the OLED element. Therefore, it is possible to drive at a low current and a high voltage. According to the company, this method is simpler than when using metal wires, which helps to reduce costs.
