According to the Nihon Keizai Shimbun, in order to promote the commercialization of the new generation of high-speed communication "5G" in 2020, promote the technological development of manufacturers and the development of new products, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications of Japan will formulate 5G technical safety standards and plan to complete the standard setting this summer. Efforts to promote the adoption of this standard by international organizations and thus become an international standard.
The current Radio Protection Guidebook of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications specifies the standard value of the radio wave intensity for each frequency band and is the standard for the development and manufacture of various wireless devices such as mobile phones. However, 5G communication will use a higher frequency band than the traditional mobile phone, and its standard has not yet been determined. The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications will measure the intensity of the electric wave emitted by the relevant equipment, evaluate its safety, and incorporate the 5G related frequency band standard into the Guide. Strong electric waves will bring irritation and heat to the human body. The current radio frequency intensity control in the Guide is 1/50 of the level affecting the human body, and 5G communication will ensure the same level of safety. If the mobile communication company can meet the standard, a radio wave license can be obtained.
In 5G applications, in addition to smart phones, Japanese companies are actively developing R&D in IoT applications. The normative standard is the premise of the development of the Internet of Things. There is no standard to ensure security, and products and services cannot be discussed. The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications said that if safety standards can be formulated as soon as possible, it may become an international standard, which will greatly promote domestic manufacturers to enter the world market.
While developing 5G safety standards, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications will also conduct research on the safe use of next-generation radio technologies such as wireless charging and distance measurement radars in autonomous driving.
